Creative Fatigue
In short
Creative fatigue is the drop in an ad's performance when the audience has seen it too often: click-through rate falls and cost per result rises.
Also known as: ad fatigue
Creative fatigue (also ad fatigue) happens when an audience has seen an ad so often that it stops responding. The ad keeps running but brings fewer and fewer results at ever higher cost.
Typical signs
- Frequency rises: the same people see the ad more and more often.
- Click-through rate falls, often over several weeks.
- CPM, cost per click and cost per lead rise while budget and targeting stay the same.
In lead generation
Creative fatigue doesn't only show in clicks. Lead quality can drop too, when an ad only reaches people who haven't responded so far. So it's worth watching cost per acquisition over time, not just click-through rate and cost per lead. With a launch month in the ad name, you can see how long an idea lasts; see ad naming convention.
