Advantage+
Meta's automated campaign and creative features
In short
Advantage+ is Meta's umbrella term for AI-driven automation in campaigns: the algorithm controls audience, placements, budget and creative variations.
Also known as: Advantage Plus, Advantage+ campaign, Advantage+ creative
Advantage+ is Meta's umbrella term for automated, AI-driven features in Ads Manager. Instead of setting the audience, placements, budget split and ad variations by hand, you hand these decisions fully or partly to the algorithm.
The main building blocks
- Advantage+ campaigns: Fully automated campaigns, for example for sales, app installs or leads. You set the goal, budget, creatives and a few constraints, and Meta handles the rest.
- Advantage+ audience: Meta finds the audience itself. Your interest or custom audience inputs only serve as a starting point.
- Advantage+ placements: Ads run automatically wherever they deliver results most cheaply, such as feeds, Stories or Reels on Facebook and Instagram.
- Advantage+ campaign budget: The budget is set at the campaign level and automatically distributed across ad sets.
- Advantage+ creative: Meta automatically adjusts creatives, for example cropping, brightness, text variations or music.
Example
A real estate agent tests a manual campaign with detailed targeting against an Advantage+ campaign, each with a $3,000 budget. The manual campaign brings in 60 leads at $50, the Advantage+ campaign 90 leads at $33. The CRM tells a different story, though: the manual campaign produces 6 appointments, Advantage+ only 4. A lower cost per lead alone doesn't tell you which setup is better.
Advantage+ for lead generation
Automation is only as good as the signals it optimizes for. If you only report "lead" to Meta, the algorithm looks for more form fillers, whether or not they ever buy. Advantage+ works better when Meta learns which leads are qualified or turn into deals. To do that, you send those events back to Meta through the Conversion API.
LeadMetrics sends events like lead, purchase or deal won from your CRM or payment provider to Meta Ads through the Conversion API, and shows you per campaign, ad set and ad how many leads, deals and how much revenue were actually generated. That lets you compare Advantage+ campaigns fairly with manual ones. To see how Meta uses AI inside the ad account, read Meta AI for Meta Ads.
Common mistakes
- Only looking at cheap leads: Advantage+ often lowers your cost per lead, but not always your cost per closed deal.
- Too few conversions: With only a handful of events per week, the algorithm has little data to learn from.
- Too few creatives: Since audience and placements are automated, the creative is the most important lever you have left.
