ttclid

TikTok Click ID

In short

The ttclid (TikTok Click ID) is an identifier TikTok appends to the landing page URL on an ad click. TikTok uses it to attribute later conversions to that click.

The ttclid (TikTok Click ID) is TikTok's counterpart to Google's gclid and Meta's fbclid. TikTok appends it to the landing page URL when someone clicks an ad, for example ?ttclid=E.C.P.Cs.... If the ID is stored during the visit and later sent back with a conversion, TikTok can attribute the lead or purchase to the original click.

How the ttclid is used

  1. Someone clicks your TikTok ad, and the ttclid is added to the URL.
  2. Your tracking stores the ttclid during the visit, together with the lead.
  3. When a conversion happens, the ttclid is sent to TikTok through the Events API, in addition to a hashed email address or phone number.

TikTok recommends sending the ttclid untruncated; it can be up to 1,000 characters long. Besides the ttclid, TikTok uses the TikTok Pixel's _ttp cookie as another identifier.

The ttclid in lead generation

With leads, revenue is often made weeks after the click. A later deal can only be attributed to the click if the ttclid is stored with the lead. LeadMetrics captures the ttclid automatically during the visit, links it to the lead and sends it to TikTok with leads, deals and purchases through the Conversion API.
